Fasting day 3: It ain’t easy being green!

On Monday, I went green. Super green.

I started with my usual morning tonic of the lemonade I drank all weekend. The rest of the day, I drank my super green smoothie.

This recipe is very rough. I basically just wanted to fill the blender.

  • 1 small watermelon, which I cut into chunks and then blended first.
  • About 2 cups greens. I de-stemmed kale and chopped it and put a mix of that kale and baby spinach in the blender till it was full.
  • 1 peeled, de-seeded and chopped cucumber.
  • 4 sticks of celery and added that to the kale and spinach.

  • 1 avocado peeled and cut in chunks
  • 1/4 cup aloe vera juice
  • 1 T green powder (any combination of wheat grass, chlorella, macha, etc.)
  • Juice of 4 limes.
  • 1 T honey
  • 1/4 c coconut water

I blended all of this and it made this much juice (those are each 24 oz):

The smoothie is not delicious. I think the avocado helps a lot with the texture. I don’t really taste the lime. The watermelon helps make it palatable, although I added about a tablespoon of honey because I just couldn’t stomach it otherwise. It was a little thick, so I added a splash of coconut water.

I had a mug of the lemon drink warm at 6:30am.

I can’t really face something so, um, shall we say, “savory,” first thing in the morning, but I got hungry, so I started drinking it about an hour after I got to work, which was around 8am.

I drank a 24oz bottle of the lemonade throughout the day and mixed some with La Croix now that I am home.

I am nearly done with the second container of smoothie at 6:30pm.

I definitely have cravings and am definitely a little hungry, but I don’t feel low energy, weak, tired, headachy or anything else. My body feels fine. I am debating exercise, but it is not lack of energy, but rather lack of motivation keeping me. I would much rather procrastinate on instagram.

Tomorrow, I will go spicy orange! There is no real science to my order or my smoothies, except that I am definitely trying to make combos that taste decent and go well together; serve a purpose; and have a balance of sugar, fat, vegetables, fruit and fiber. I am not totally random. I also don’t want to quit because I am bored, so variety with a long fast in between seems best.

Since I will drink my next one at 8am, I would like to finish this one at 8pm. Throwing a little intermittent fasting for good measure!
